Array She was eventually put into a drug induced state of semi consciousness, no longer feeling pain, but no longer lucid or able to communicate with us.I drove myself close to insane in those final days, trying my hardest to stay at the hospice room with Ronne as I had promised her I would not desert her and that I would be by her side when she passed.Ronne passed at 315 A.M. Three days after Ronne’s death, I began the walk and on Sunday, October 16, 2005, I completed the 60 mile walk in her honor. The time I spent with her, first as friends, then as lovers is so precious and the memories of that time here on earth with her will have to do until I see her again.Although my body is filled with grief for Ronne in every fiber, I know that I will see her again. I told her I would find her every day for the rest of my life , I will feel her in the warm sun on my face, hear her in the gentle breeze, feel her in the pulse of the ocean waves, taste her in the sweet salt of the sea and smell her in every rose.

-ne Just spent a week at Microsoft [I will go into why later].I have noticed that all MS speak follows this expression: So…. At first I thought it was a result of MS trying to fix it’s perceived arrogance, by asking for confirmation in every statement, and by starting with SO, in an attempt to appear passive (or at least not aggressive).I am guessing that it merely spread, as a meme so to speak, to everyone in the MS space.

-ne Slowly, but surely, the mainstream media and non-blogger journalists are getting into the act of investigating IIPM. Because of their established position in the media scene — not just in India, but everywhere else, too — they get access to the innards of IIPM. They actually probe further into the veracity of the claims made by IIPM in their ads (many of the others, sadly, stopped at just reporting it at the level of IIPM vs. Interetingly, the BW reporters were ‘promised’ complete access to IIPM. He visited Businessworld and invited it to conduct its own examination of the IIPM facilities and his credentials. Among the things BW had asked for were specific details on companies that come for campus recruitments at IIPM, salary details of the people placed, details about its faculty and facilities, as well as details of its study tours and other advertising claims. The IIPM faculty: Well, the bulk of the IIPM faculty is made up of former IIPM students. Pass out and join IIPM as faculty or Planman Consulting as a consultant. It is short on its own investigation of IIPM’s advertised claims.

-ne In some contemporary discussion of textual criticism of the NT one could easily get the impression that the text was in a state of considerable fluidity. If Luz is right that early scribes corrected Matthew 13:35 to preserve the truth of the text, why did so few do this in Matthew 27:9?

When Granny Got on LSD: The Story of How Granny Got on LSD

Array At ease in each other’s company, they would talk about local matters, often triggered by something seen from the car window - the new athletic stadium that we passed, the newly-opened road, and a rather forlorn looking housing estate with the majority of plots standing empty. The stadium could only be half glimpsed from the road. Large signboards shout the message that the empty plots (plus the mandatory colourful, but somewhat plastic-looking, house) can be purchased for roughly 25 million yen (125,000 pounds) – and each house has its own hot spring thrown in for good measure. But nobody’s rushing to splash the cash, not even for the soothing forty degree waters, and the empty plots remain empty. In his well-written tale of doom, Dogs and Demons: Tales from the Dark Side of Japan, Alex Kerr laments what has happened to the land in Japan.

The Texas Transportation Commission makes no bones about it: It wants companies to come to Texas, wallets open, and build or buy toll roads. Were prepared to make sure youre rewarded for taking on that risk, commission Chairman Ric Williamson told the crowd. That potential reward is the nub.One of the primary sales points for toll roads has been that once the turnpikes are in place, with forevermore toll charges, the profits would be plowed back into the road system. The toll road operators, meanwhile — no fools they — would certainly do everything they could to pay Texas less than what those roads will eventually generate in revenue. That margin, the profit, is money that would go to their stockholders, not Texas roads. That could go both ways, Krusee said, noting that the roads might underperform and thus swing the transactions to Texas’ favor.

I will always remember the day that Ronald Reagan died. Ronald Reagan was always known for his jokes and his ability to make people laugh. And thats one of the reasons why Reagan was so successful. When he was continually attacked for being too old during his run for re-election he said this to Mondale in a debate, I want you to know that also I will not make age an issue of this campaign. And Ronald Reagan was just that. His Optimism: The more I live life the more I see how important it is to be optimistic. Ronald Reagan was known for being an optimist and everyone loves to spend time and be around an optimist. Think of what couldve happened had Reagan given up or compromised. Reagan was right in his message not to give up. There are many stories of Reagan doing things for people and specifically making sure the cameras were turned off while he was doing it. old lady that had very little money but gave small amounts to the Republican party because she loved Ronald Reagan. This is what Noonan had to say about the encounter: This, I said in the speech about Reagans character, “is why Reagan is Reagan. He knows Mrs. Green is a little old lady all by herself in the world, shes no one, with nothing to give him, and Reagan is behind his desk and he rises and calls out, Frances! He asked her to sit down and they talked about California and he gave her a lot of time, and if you say on a day like that it was time wasted, there are a lot of people whod say, Oh no it wasnt. I hope it is inspiring to others and please share any Reagan stories that you have in the comments.Sources:When Character Was King by Peggy NoonanHow Ronald Reagan Changed my Life by Peter RobinsonChallenger Disaster Speech

“Oh, is it called DSL?” she asked, a touch embarrassed. My mom’s experience getting on LSD was a trip, so I ought to share some of it here. She has been using dial-up Internet access since getting her first Mac in 1995. I support her in that choice. When she told me she wanted to get onto LSD, I told her she could count on me for support. And it works like a charm.Since my mom is new to web surfing, I wanted to make sure she has the most modern browser possible on her Mac OS 9 iMac. The links he sends to my mom are not active hyperlinks in AOL 5.0, the highest version of AOL for Mac OS 9. So I set up a free Yahoo Mail account for her and told my brother to courtesy-copy her Yahoo Mail address when sending her links to family photos.Mom is now able to easily access family photos via the slideshow in Shutterfly. The happy news is that by bringing her own Internet access she now pays .95 per month for her AOL account. Adding that to her 5/month LSD account from Verizon, and the total adds up to the same as what she was paying for AOL dial-up alone. Free LSD.The next step is to tell all her nieces, nephews and grandkids that granny is on LSD. Knowing that, they’ll be able to send her audio and video clips to support her habit.

USA Today has reported that LOST will end in 2010, after three additional 16 episode seasons. Sure, the somewhat shortened seasons of 16 episodes will fly by (but then again, so have the past three 20-something episode seasons), but imagine how replete those episodes will be with information and intrigue. Thus, we’ll be getting a noticeably higher answers/shocks/twists-to-episode ratio.Bottom line: three forthcoming seasons means that there are still three full years of LOST to enjoy.

Next Story »November 28, 2007“The End of America”: Feminist Social Critic Naomi Wolf Warns U.S. in Slow Descent into FascismIn her new book, “The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot”, Naomi Wolf says the United States is on the road to becoming a fascist society, right under our very noses. Naomi Wolf joins me now in the firehouse studio.Naomi Wolf, Social critic, feminist, and author of ‘The Beauty Myth.” It’s called The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot, and it’s already on the New York Times bestseller list.Naomi Wolf outlines what she sees as the ten steps to shut down a democratic society. Naomi Wolf is the author of several books, including the ’90s feminist classic, The Beauty Myth.Critics describe her latest book, The End of America, as a wake-up call to Americans to heed the lessons of history and fight to save their democracy before its too late.Naomi Wolf joins us in our firehouse studio. Welcome to Democracy Now!NAOMI WOLF: Thank you, Amy.AMY GOODMAN: It’s good to have you with us. Start off with the stories that you tell in your book.NAOMI WOLF: Well, they’re the stories of societies that were systematically closed down by would-be despots, would-be dictators, whether they were on the left or the right, who essentially developed a blueprint in the first part of the twentieth century to crush democracies or to crush democracy movements. And I saw that there is a blueprint that would-be dictators always do the same ten things, whether they’re on the left or the right, and that we are seeing these ten steps taking place systematically right now in the United States.AMY GOODMAN: Lay them out.NAOMI WOLF: Well, they’re not happy. And remember the famous sound bite—“We can’t wait for the smoking gun to come in the form of a mushroom cloud”—to drive us into an illegal war with a nation we were not at war with.AMY GOODMAN: You also talk about the language, like the Department of Homeland Security.NAOMI WOLF: That is where I, as a social critic and a student of language, get really scared. There was the beginning of the Military Commissions Act of 2006, in which the state basically legalized torture, which is one of these crucial turning points as an open society closes down.AMY GOODMAN: You talk about Christine Axsmith, the computer security expert working for the CIA, who, what, wrote—posted a message on a blog site on a top-secret computer network, criticizing waterboarding—NAOMI WOLF: Waterboarding.AMY GOODMAN: —saying waterboarding is torture, and torture is wrong.NAOMI WOLF: And then she lost her security clearance. And now we’ve just confirmed an attorney general who pretends not to know what waterboarding is, because if he acknowledged that it’s against US and international law, he’d be confirming the fact that there are criminals in the White House right now who have already staged a coup.AMY GOODMAN: You say step three is establishing secret prisons.NAOMI WOLF: That’s right. Hitler again studied Mussolini and developed the People’s Court. And what starts to happen is—and this is what’s so scary about Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib and these black sites around the world—apart from the moral issue—and your interview just now with the Palestinian representative brought me to tears, because when he said it’s not just the Palestinians he’s concerned about, it’s the Israelis who lose their souls by this kind of occupation—it’s not just the often-innocent prisoners in Guantanamo and Abu Ghraib and these black sites around the world we should be concerned about, it’s our own American souls that are at stake. And once the state legalizes torture of people at the margins, inevitably it will begin to direct state abuse at people at the heart of civil society, and it’s always the same cast of characters: journalists, editors, opposition leaders, outspoken clergy and labor leaders. Prescott Bush, Bush’s grandfather, was making millions in consolidation with Krupp, Thyssen, and it’s very interesting to me, because in the Nuremberg trials they went after these industrialists like Krupp, and so there was a moment at which the Nuremberg trial was about to identify supporters of these war crimes who were US collaborators.AMY GOODMAN: But they didn’t.NAOMI WOLF: But they didn’t. It’s the question of who controlled the trials and not wanting their own people to be involved.NAOMI WOLF: I see.AMY GOODMAN: You talk then—four, developing a paramilitary force and surveiling ordinary citizens. So, you know, when I say everyone’s got their moment at which they start to silence themselves, the day I read in the New York Times that someone I identify with has been named an enemy combatant and is sitting in a Navy brig in isolation, that’s when I’m going to stop talking in a context like this, because that’s when I will become too afraid.AMY GOODMAN: We’re talking to Naomi Wolf. Not only is he on the list, but people who come to me in tears after my readings are more upset that now their kids are on the list if they write a letter critical of the Bush administration.AMY GOODMAN: Have you been able to get off the list?NAOMI WOLF: Well, I was off the list ’til this book came out, and now I’m back on the list.

I wandered around the resort on the beach for an hour or two, taking lackluster photos. So I peed in the nice western toilet, took some photos of the tiles in the john and sat drinking tea for a while, resting my still red legs, staring at the ocean.Next, I took a taxi to Mosquée Hassan II. More about the theft in a bit.Ok, so these photos aren’t mine, but they are really similar to the photos I took that day so I guess it’s ok.I was filming a little video sequence when the call to prayer sounded from the minaret. I had a chance to watch that video a little later in the day on the viewer of the camera. Sigh.Next I took a taxi to Habbous Souk where I took a ton of photos. Finally I had found something photo worthy! There were a few main streets to the souk and then a bunch of little alleys. I went down all of the little alleys.I actually think my photos of the souk were better than the ones I found on the internet. A small doorway led to a courtyard lined on all sides with men selling olives from large blue barrels. There were about 15 different sellers, each of them displaying the olives in a slightly different way.I took at least a couple of dozen photos. I bought a bag of mixed olives with veggies to take to Erwan. I would have to wait until I met up with Erwan at his apartment to sample the cookies and olives. My final stop before heading back to the apartment was not on Erwans suggesion list, but my guide book describes the Cathedral de Sacre Couer as Casablancas most classic piece of Christmas-cake colonial architecture so thats where I asked the next taxi to drop me off.I was tired from walking and I needed to give my legs a break. I took a photo of it, so I could remember how lame it was and plunked down in the grass to rest. I could not believe one of those kids had taken my camera. I asked for the police and they led me down the street where a policeman guarding some government building took over. It would have been even quicker if the officer had not been sharing the pen with the other officer who was taking someone else’s statement for something or other. We went to Erwan’s and he fed me a delicious salad, soup, bread and the olives I’d bought. Erwan had an idea for getting me another camera but I needed to wait for him to be off work before we could check it out.So alright, again I had an off day. I am still mourning the loss of the photos I took of the olive market and the video of the drapery feeding frenzy.

Array This fantastic ad for Jello from a Sunset magazine, Dec. 1954, gave me a great idea for a kitschy Christmas decoration, for those who love kitsch and pictures of outdated, disgusting dishes (there are plenty of fans out there for that sort of thing, me included!) I bet they would dig to decorate their Christmas tree with lights shaped like little miniature aspics (aspic is the same thing as jello, only with salty ingredients like salad, shrimp, etc, intended to be served as a main dish, as opposed to regular jello, which is sweet, sometimes including bits of fruit and is served as desert.)Seeing how this particular aspic seems to shine from within, as if it had a tiny light in there, gave me the idea.

A few game notes:- The Baby, the Knicks mascot I pointed out from a win against Washington earlier this year, was once again in the house. Way to kill the nickname, man.Skeets and Tas, where you at?- I don’t watch much Bulls basketball, but my guess would be that Ben Gordon is to Chicago what Jamal Crawford is to the Knicks. everytime he squares up for a 30 foot fadeaway.- At the very end of the game, Tyrus Thomas couldn’t find a man for his inbounds pass, so he just threw it to himself off David Lee’s ass. Isiah’s handled it pretty well.Anyway, this was a great win for a surely tired Knicks team (9 guys playing 3 overtimes over the last week).

-ne Woman called 999 for broken nailA woman in a nightclub phoned for an ambulance after breaking a fingernail.Another woman dialled 999 saying a mouse had swallowed her medicine.Other calls included a man who needed someone to change the television channel, a man who had a dream he was unconscious and had collapsed and a caller who wanted a can of pop out of the fridge. They were among thousands of timewasters revealed to have blocked 999 lines. The North East Ambulance Service also highlighted the growing number of revellers who call an ambulance to save queuing for taxis. They fake injury then wrongly assume ambulance staff will take them home after treatment.A spokeswoman for NEAS said: Some of the calls we get are ridiculous.

Alligator lives in United States and China regions and because its lower teeth are enclosed within its upper jaw when its mouth is closed, only its upper teeth can be seen.Do you know that all Jaguars are spotted though some appear black? Just like human with darker skin colour get less sunburn compared to those with fairer skin, blue coloured tongue is less likely to get sunburn compared to pink or cream ones. Why does a mother wombat keep her embryo in the pouch rather than keeping it growing in her womb?

It sits easier on the tongue and I suddenly I feel, to use the cliche, older and wiser.I also feel kinda obliged to hold forth for a while on the year that’s past and boy, its been quite a ride! But on the whole, its definitely been a time that’s made me ‘grow-up’, or as my favourite comic-strip character would say, it’s built some excellent character. All said and endured, I think I have fully (no make that beautifully) lived my 25th year but now it’s time to measure up to an exciting moment in destiny.

The occupational therapist saw Paul for the last time with the instructions to keep his upper body excercises going and keep increasing the weight slowly. Hopefully he will be able to quickly assess what Paul will need and we won’t have to go through the guessing game of what medication would be best. Paul doesn’t need to waste time on experimenting with different drugs to find a solution and the possible side effects medications have. The headaches are limiting Paul in all activities and even his appetite. Michael asked Paul what car he wanted in case the ticket was the winning ticket. Paul said he wanted a Corvette. That is the car Paul has always liked and had even told Jonathan Tarantino that he would buy one for once Paul became famous! Jon and Michael got on Pauls computer to look at the cars they would get and were showing Paul the kinds they wanted. Michael didnt ask me what I wanted, he said, “I already know what mom wants. Michael continued telling us all the options he would have on his car (yawn, again) and then Paul said “OK Thanks Mike bye now Mom and I are talking.” Paul said it as fast as you can read that sentence. Michael and I looked at each other and we both were shocked to hear Paul say something like that. I looked at Paul and asked what he wanted to talk about. Paul asked me what page I was on and I told him page 34. What made me the happiest was that Paul remembered that he had been listening to a story being read, even after all the conversation about cars. This showed that if it is something of importance to Paul, he will remember it better. As we go through the day, I go over what we have done every couple of hours to continue to help Paul review his day and hopefully help him hold more in his memory. I said the numbers and asked Paul to repeat them. (I will see if Paul will help me plant them in the Fall, not that he will remember discussing flowers!) Before the accident, Paul might have thought about how he liked the flowers but would not have said anything. Even with a headache, Paul took his trash can back upstairs. I get a second chance with Paul to help him create better habits , which a future wife will surely appreciate!

Dale and Susan Recinella work with prisoners on death row in Florida and their families. In Dale’s interview it was so awesome, one man was received into the Church just the day before he was executed. This man had been so impressed by Pope John Paul that he wanted to join whatever Church it was that that man was in charge of! Later when Dale was with him in his last hours before being executed, Dale whispered in awe to him, "What happened? Both of us felt touched by God, and I feel that helping both Susan and Dale in any way I can is something God wants. ‘From within him rivers of living water shall flow.’ "Jn 7:37-38When Jesus invites me to come and drink at the source of living water, he is inviting me to be his disciple.
